Data Mining: Web Design Essentials 2018

Heavy Analytics – Part 0

Web Design Trends - Net perception 2018

With information tech accelerating every year we see more and more disruptive designs which attract surplus users. Of course there is no one “imbalanced” layout to use across the globe for best visitor retention but as time passes new web tech evolves which enables better user experience in the mix of visual ergonomics and user controls. Largely limited by infrastructure (processing speeds), just a few years ago we were unable to build amazing things with the tools we already had. Now it is different.

So, to paint a perspective on what is going to happen, we decided to run a keyword density analysis on top ranking articles around the world to really scoop up the hype about the 2018’s trends. To do that we pulled over 80,000 words from the top 100 ranked sites for search term “web design trends 2018” over months of September through to November (Sydney Queries). At first, it seemed like a good idea to gather data from the subheadings only – but, as it turned out, many of the top ranking pages completely ignore them. So much for best SEO practices!

Anyway, paragraph and subheading content was mined and raw data densities calculated. Furthermore we summarised the month-on-month shift.

23 October - 23 November:

Call it piggybacking but we can only benchmark trends based on how Google indexes best user experience. Remember, Google’s mission states: “We’re always working to make Search better” which means that if people convert through your website then you will be a “preferred” listing, have higher quality score on PPC etc.

Back to keywords analysis, we can see short term cyclical adaptations for terms such as “content” and “mobile”. Given the small data set, we can confidently say that web is moving towards mobile and user behaviour towards December. Progressive user arsenal is provided by no other than Facebook.

Information provided is based only on 3 months of data. We look forward to providing further analysis on a much larger sample size which will yield more accurate projections. On the other hand there is always technical momentum on public awareness, therefore presenting market niches/opportunities on shorter time frames.
